    Description

    1980s Zuni Etched Mosaic
    Abalone
Inlay Big Horn Sheep Bolo Tie by Effie Qualo
This Zuni (New Mexico) bolo tie is a beautifully raised and etched flush abalone inlay
    Big Horn Sheep
. The sheep is precisely and masterfully inlayed into highly iridescent abalone shell. The master lapidarist Effie Qualo created this tie and she is famous for this design. Although the tie is unsigned, I am certain that it was made by Effie Qualo. The edge stamping is a unique characteristic that identifies the tie as one of hers as well as the handmade bezel. T
his tie was most likely made in the 1980s because the strap is attached with an unmarked Bennett clasp first used in this decade.
    The round tie is
    2-5/8" in diameter
    ,
    and the original, stamped
    sterling silver
    tips are each 2-1/8" long
. The "buttery-soft" four-ply black leather strap appears to be the original one and shows virtually no wear.
