Non turbocharged diesels rev up, slack bangs and crashes, and another cut of cars is sent rolling down a yard track. This CD features the sounds of switching action in a major railroad yard.
Mixed into three long tracks are the sounds of first generation SW type E.M.D. switchers and second generation six axle SD38 and SD40 locomotives being used in switching service. Second and third generation power from both E.M.D. and G.E. are also heard.
As several switchers go about their work, several trains pass on the mainline. These include several mixed freights, a coal train with distributed power units fore and aft, and even a couple of Amtrak passenger trains.
Tracks one and two are recorded at the end of a flat switching yard, while the sounds of cars being shoved over a hump can be heard in the background of track three.
Yard sounds were recorded at Illinois Central’s B Yard in Centralia, Illinois and at CSX’s former New York Central yard at Avon, Indiana. Several freight trains recorded at various locations were also added to the mix, with the result that sounds recorded at three locations are all heard at once. This is one action packed CD!
This CD is ideal for use as background sounds or to accompany a yard scene on your model railroad layout.
