    Description

The Soviets had been on the receiving end of the new German 7.92mm kurz round in the hands of the Wehrmacht late in WW2 much more so than the Western Allies, and the Red Army quickly realized the value in developing their own intermediate cartridge and arm. Sergei Simonov's designed semi-auto SKS carbine was adopted in 1945, constructed in the same style as many bolt action rifles of the time with extensive wooden furniture and a fixed box magazine, but chambered for the new Russian 7.62x39mm round with an integral folding bayonet under the barrel. Produced in the USSR from 1949-1955 before being superseded by the Kalashnikov, the SKS was officially adopted by 21 countries, and also manufactured in huge quantities by the Chinese. Thousands were liberally supplied to the NVA and VC during Vietnam, and many veteran bringback SKS carbines encountered today are Soviet or ChiCom made. The SKS has been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Steve Kehaya and Joe Poyer to write an informative technical guide/reference book on the subject in 1996, revised and expanded into a fifth edition in 2020. This "SKS CARBINE CKC45g" SOVIET RUSSIAN POST-WW2 NVA VIETNAM RIFLE REFERENCE BOOK is in near mint, unread condition, with only some light scattered storage wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the book is in near mint shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts elegantly illustrated softcovers, and sports 216 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, diagrams, and black and white photographs (as well as two color plates) of the SKS carbine of the Cold War era produced by Soviet Russia, China (Type 56), Romania (M56), Albania, North Korea (Type 63), North Vietnam, East Germany (Karabiner-S), and Yugoslavia (M59 and M59/66), with an emphasis on stocks, hand guards, sling swivels, receivers, bolts, trigger assemblies, sights, barrels, manufacturer's markings, serial numbers, cruciform and blade bayonets, cleaning kits, oilers, ammo, and bandoliers, precise measurements and correct details to look for in all of those parts, and a plethora of other invaluable information. A beautiful example of an "SKS CARBINE CKC45g" SOVIET RUSSIAN POST-WW2 NVA VIETNAM RIFLE REFERENCE BOOK. Now celebrating over 20 years on eBay.
